Public Safety Academy

Volunteers

In order to become a volunteer for the Ocoee Police Department, volunteers will need to take the Public Safety Academy class. The class instructors are Ocoee Police Officers. The class will discuss crime prevention, defensive tactics, fire fighting and more.

Program Details

  • 12 weeks (48-hour program); Classes will meet on 12 evenings in the Commission Chambers
  • Free to residents
  • Funded by donations
  • Participants eligible for 1 ride-along with an officer on normal patrol
  • Taught by Police Officers, industry experts and Firefighters
  • View / Participate in firearm demonstration

Eligibility Requirements

  • Class size is limited
  • Have no criminal record that would prevent being hired by a police or fire department
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must sign a release and waiver
  • Preference will be given to residents, but those who work in, or for, the city can fill available seats
